Worship
Come this Sunday and experience worship that will make a difference in your life!
Sunday morning @ 10:30 a.m.
Worship is at the very center of our life together. Each Sunday we gather to hear Scripture come alive and intersect with our lives, and to celebrate our relationship with God around the Communion Table.
Our worship is “blended.” It is ancient and future. It is Rooted, inspired and guided by the historic hymnody and worship patterns of the Ancient Church, without being stuffy; and Relevant, fresh and alive with the music and spirit of today, without being shallow or trite.
It is worship that is truly life-giving, inspiring and transforming. You don’t want to miss this!
Come and experience it for yourself this Sunday morning!
Weather Cancellation Policy
St. Mary Magdalene will hold worship service every Sunday, barring catastrophe. Weather will not deter the priest or an assigned lay person to provide Eucharist or Morning Prayer.
Non-worship events will be cancelled based on the local school system schedule. If your public school is closed because of the weather, non-worship events, meetings and classes and other scheduled SMM programs will be cancelled.
All are encouraged to make a decision to attend services based on their comfort levels and good judgement for safety. Where ever two or three are gathered, we will have church.
God’s many blessings to all!
Great Music is Vital to Our Worship
From our very beginnings, excellence in worship arts has been a key priority. Our music program is an outstanding expression of this commitment.
Come to pray and sing with us to experience the beauty and awe we enjoy together as our worship and song connects us with God.`
Our organ has a very special provenance; it was originally installed in the home of James and Carlene Neihart. Mrs. Neihart was a well-known organist in the KC area, working as a church organist and a concert organist for many years.
Our organ was manufactured by the Wicks Organ Company in Highlands, IL in 1969. When Mrs. Niehardt could no longer play the organ due to failing health, the Neiharts chose St. Mary Magdalene as the new home for the organ. The Neiharts generously donated the organ itself, and parishioners raised funds to install it in the church in January, 2013.
Mrs. Neihart died on December 13, 2016. More details on her distinguished career are in this extract from her obituary.
Our worship and song selection is what is known as “blended worship.” This means that we worship with music styles from a wide range of sources.
On any given Sunday we may hear 16th century motets, sing contemporary choruses, traditional hymns, folk music, spirituals, Taize songs, or any number of other styles of music.
We enjoy hymns for their strength and deep theology. And we share in contemporary music for its joyful and intimate spirit.
During our worship you’ll hear and sing along with anything from chanted psalms, guitar lead choruses, violin and flute preludes, to quiet meditative Taize prayer songs.
Come, join us for worship–you don’t want to miss this!
