Christian Formation is “lifelong growth in the knowledge, service, and love of God as followers of Christ… informed by Scripture, Tradition, and Reason.”
At St. Mary Magdalene, forming disciples of Jesus, rooted in worship, prayer, study, and service, is at the heart of everything we do.
In the sections below, you’ll find details about our formation offerings, all designed to help deepen our knowledge and love of God and to equip the saints for the work of ministry.
St. Mary Magdalene seeks to create a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for children and their parents to encourage spiritual growth.
Children are absolutely vital to the life of our church and we incorporate them into our worship as early as possible. Passing our life of faith on to the next generation is a key priority of St. Mary Magdalene. We invite you to bring your entire family to join us! We love the sound of Children in worship so don’t worry if they make a bit of noise.
Each Sunday during the academic year children and youth gather in the education room for the first half of the service and return in time for Holy Communion.
We also have a room at the back of the church, equipped with seating and toys, and a sound feed from the service so that you can be a part of the service while still having some privacy if you need it.
Each Sunday throughout the academic year (September-May) our Sunday school team offers a lesson for children and youth in the Education room during the first half of the service.
At St. Mary Magdalene we use a curriculum called Weaving God’s Promises.
Weaving God’s Promises is a Christian education program for children from preschool to 6th Grade. The curriculum is titled Weaving God’s Promises after our process of faith formation in which we learn how God’s promises of salvation are inextricably woven into our lives.
The program is comprehensive and designed to provide children with basic knowledge of Church teachings in Christian education, worship and service, the three elements essential to the practice of our faith. Like a three-legged stool, each is dependent on the other in order for the faith to stand firmly.
Through this church school curriculum, we hope to foster the spiritual formation and growth of our children in Christ’s love and mercy, to teach the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation, and to send our children out into the
world as Christ’s ambassadors.
Our Youth Group offers a welcoming space for middle and high school students to explore their faith, build lasting friendships, and grow into the people God is calling them to be. Through monthly gatherings, service projects, retreats, and fun activities, we aim to help our young people connect with Christ, their community, and each other in meaningful ways. We aim to nurture a faith that is thoughtful, active, and rooted in love.

Whether you prefer a traditional Bible study, a conversation on a current best seller or a class on a particular topic, there are regular formation opportunities available to you here at St. Mary Magdalene. Our discussions are riveted and intertwined with Christian teaching that will help you deepen you faith and live it out in your daily life.
Lectio Divina (contemplative Bible Study) meets every Sunday at 9:15 a.m. before the service in the small classroom. We’ll go through reading the Gospel for that day and looking for what message it holds for each of us.
The Wednesday Bible Study meets online at 7:00 p.m. on Google Meet to study the Holy Scriptures in a conversational format. These studies provide an opportunity to explore God’s Word together, ask questions, share insights, and encourage one another in faith. Everyone is welcome to join us as we grow in our understanding of Scripture and apply its teachings to our daily lives.
The Daughters of the King are an organization for women in the Episcopal Church dedicated to prayer, service, and evangelism that fosters lifelong discipleship. The Daughter’s of the King meet on the third Sunday of the month following the Holy Eucharist
Coffee & Questions is an informal time where nothing is off limits. This offering is a space for honest conversation about belief, practice, and the Episcopal tradition based on the questions you have. Whether you’re new to the Church or a lifelong Episcopalian, this is a space to ask, learn, and grow together. It is offered once every other month on Sunday after worship.
Confirmation Classes are offered regularly, in conjunction with the Bishop’s visit, to prepare those who desire to be confirmed, received or make a reaffirmation to make a public declaration of their commitment to Jesus Christ and the faith of the Church.
Advent & Lenten Studies are offered in a hybrid format meeting in-person at the Church, and via Google Meet on Wednesdays in Advent and Lent as a way to mark these seasons as times of deeper prayer, reflection and study on the great mysteries of our faith.
All of our Formation offerings are designed as opportunities for us deepen our faith to hold each other up as we navigate the places where our faith, life and relationships intersect.
The Path: A Journey Through the Bible
Meeting Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on Google Meet
This study invites participants to take a broad and thoughtful walk through Scripture, exploring the overarching story of the Bible and how its many parts fit together into one unfolding narrative of God’s love and purpose.
Designed for both longtime students of Scripture and those who are newer to the Bible, The Path offers a clear and accessible way to deepen understanding, ask questions, and grow in faith alongside others. Whether you are looking to reconnect with the big picture of the biblical story or engage Scripture in a new way, this study provides a welcoming space for learning and conversation. All are welcome to join us as we begin the new year rooted in God’s Word.
